Classwork...
Today in class we got SPESific about how to create a SPES statement. We found out that:
1) The SPES structure can be completed with 4 questions:
What do you think about X? CLAIM
Oh, really, why's that? PROOF
Ok, so can you explain? EXPLANATION
So, based on your explanation, what you're really saying is? SUMMARY
EXAMPLE:
What do you think about my room?
1) The Statement in the SPES structure is always controversial/arguable.
Your room is a disaster zone.
Oh really, well why do you say that?
2) The Proof is a generalized account of evidence: It's disorganized, it's filled with misplaced things, and it's filthy.
Hmm. Can you explain?
3)The Explanation is a specific account of WARRANT or of argumentation: You've got papers and books everywhere, cereal bowls from the kitchen, a weedeater from the garage, and a fine film of mold has grown over your wall. A mess by definition is something that has the features your room house. Therefore...
So what you're really saying then is?
4) The SYNTHESIS summarizes or blends the previous information: You need to call in the special ops maid service. Your room is in need of some serious scrubbing. Your room is a hot mess!
And that is how you do it!
