Classwork (Tuesday, 10.14.14 - A-Team)
Today was quite revealing about the level analysis we need to be doing verses perhaps what some of us are actually doing. We all need to do a better job of building a community of discussions, writing, thinking and analysis, as it seems that some of us (not all) are giving the passages "short shrift", a term which here means, not spending the requisite time on the analysis needed to do justice to the passage(s). This can be fixed quite easily by a) squeezing an extra hour into the day by altering the quantum structure of the 24 hour set up that causes us so much consternation, or b) recognizing that work for this class is equally important with any other school work that you do, since the AP exam for Language & Composition is just as rigorous and difficult to pass as the others, if not more.
The warrant here would be that if the work for this class is as important as the work you do for any other class (a fact established in argument above), then you ought to give it your best shot, and not see this work as "flotsam" and "jetsam", words here meaning, stuff you can safely ignore since a) Mr. Walters isn't looking, or b) "ain't nobody got time for that," meaning that we are all busy, but you are so busy that quality work isn't something you think you can commit to.
Bottom Line:

Bottom Line:
Mr. Walters (rhetorically, it makes it so much easier to refer to yourself in the 3rd person when trying to imagine yourself strong and confident, or to admit guilt in an ever so slight and nuanced way) is just as busy as the next bloke, and he appreciates a good slacking off once in a while. That said, even he recognizes the need to get his rear in gear in here and get your papers and quizzes and quick writes and analyses graded and recorded, and he thinks you should realize your responsibility and commitment towards quality work.
And here's an exemplar that should help you see the kind of analysis expected in a college class (I'm not going to mention Josh A's name so as not to draw unwarranted adulation and approbation his way)

Homework...
You received your The Crucible book. Your job is to read CLOSELY all of Act I, but also to read the Overture on the PDF on my resources page and write an analysis of the argument(s) that Miller seems to make. What connections are you beginning to see with any of the previous texts we have encountered?
Also, your next vocabulary list (which now includes the term, "short shrift") is due one week from now. You will take a quiz on List 2 next week.
